When all is gone is when we find The values that we hold, What makes us mourn, in what rejoice, It's then these things unfold.
The value held in diamond rings Is gone when life's in threat, For what is it, but stone that shines, Not loss in which to fret.
When life is good, loudly complain, Blessings are hid from eyes, It's only when we lose it all That focus changes guise.
I ask you now, if this is you, I know it's surely me, And only `til God takes it all Will eyes begin to see.
We hold on tight to this old world, And everything within, And only when it's stripped from us, Does change in us begin.
I said a prayer of thanks today, I hope that you did, too, And asked my Lord to open eyes, Erase view gone askew.
It's only life that holds the gold, But even life, we can give up, If aware that death holds more, That with the Lord that day will sup.
But alas, to goods we cling, Until that day when all is gone, And hidden is the morning glory, For not yet have seen the dawn.
