Cats, birds and death??

In the dream there is another female that I am familiar with but I do not recall who it is. She has a white kitten and then I bring a younger black kitten. We are sitting outside talking while the kittens are playing. They continue to play with each other and yet keep scratchning both of our legs, leaving thin slices. We keep picking them up and try to calm them. We put them back down one last time and her white kitten begins to choke on something. I look from the kitten back to her....I feel the panick and then look back to the kitten which is now a small white bird. The bird is laying kind of doubled over with it's tail underneath its belly. The belly is visibile under one wing and you can see the belly sucking in and out as if choking. I remember thing OMG! What do I do. I look at the other female just as she yells and brings her hand down on the bird's back, I think she is ging to try and help the bird, but she slams her hand flat down on the bird. I can hear the loud noise as she crushes the bird and can see the bird explode. I look at the female and remember seeing panick on her face as if this was a mistake....I wake up at this point and am completely freaked out by the vivid sound and sight that is still with me.
I do not normally remember my dreams (or nightmares) unless they are vivid as this one was. I am at a loss of what it could represent/mean.
